Great Places to Eat in New Orleans

The Alliance for Continuing Medical Education conference is in New Orleans later this week. One of the reasons I've always enjoyed traveling to New Orleans is sampling the dozens of great restaurants. The cuisine in New Orleans and Louisiana is unique in the United States and arguably the world. The challenge when visiting New Orleans, Louisiana ("NOLA" to those in the know) is not finding a great food experience, it's narrowing down the choices.

For this trip, I decided to use the book "Roadfood" by Jane and Michael Sterns (buy it at Amazon) to help narrow down the choices. The 2005 edition of the book lists nine restaurants in New Orleans:

• Café Atchafalaya, 901 Louisiana Ave
• Café du Monde, 813 Decatur St
• Casamento's, 4330 Magazine St
• Central Grocery, 923 Decatur St
• Domilise's Po-Boys, 5240 Annunciation St
• Dunbar's Creole Cooking, 4927 Freret
• Mother's, 401 Poydras St.
• Uglesich's, 1238 Baronne
  

All nine have been added to the Black Book.
